Our From Fanfic Resources
Throught my book Out from Fanfic: Transforming Creative Freesom, I drop a lot of “live” links that you might miss, or won’t notice at all if you are reading the hard-copy printed edition. I have collected them here for your to access whenever you need them!
Fanlore Links
Throughout the text I refer a lot to Fanlore, the fan-created and run wiki for all things about fandom. It’s a fantastic resource and I wish more people knew about it!

Readings on Copyright
I am not a lawyer, much less a copyright lawyer. Everything I’ve talked about here is my own opinion based on the research I’ve done over the years. Always, always consult with your own lawyer if you have questions about things like intellectual property, copyright, and trademarks.
That said, here is some further reading you might find helpful!
- Who Owns This Sentence? A History of Copyrights and Wrongs by David Bellos, Alexandre Montagu (Montagu is an IP lawyer, and Dr. Bellos is the director of the Program in Translation and Intercultural Communication at Princeton University, so this was an interesting team-up!)
- Pretty much anything by Cory Doctorow. His non-fiction work often addresses the topics of copyright, intellectual property, and creative labor markets in the digital age.
- Common as Air: Revolution, Art, and Ownership by Lewis Hyde (one of my favorite books on copyright history, creative commons, and what it means to “share” art).
- Owning Culture: Authorship, Ownership, and Intellectual Property Law by Kembrew McLeod
